Harvesting Cultured Pearls

Harvesting Cultured Pearls

Let's Talk Pearl Harvesting

I was cruising around the other day and ran across a video I would like to share with you.

Here is what I found...

Have you ever known or thought about how Pearls are actually commercially gotten?

I mean, they are not corn or wheat. They are not natural stones. they are a result of a natural process that occurs within certain mollusks such as clams and oysters where a bit of sand hets inside the shell and is slowly over time covered with a natural substance called nacre.

It is deposited layer by layer over the sand until the sand particle and the layers of nacre break free from the inside of the shell, and just sort of lay there. Like a stone or a kidney stone. Then later this pearl can be gotten out from the shell and this video shows how this process is done commercially.

Enjoy!!

Well, that is how Cultured Pearls are made.

Fascinating eh?
